Botox and Superficial Chemical Peels Q & A

Thrive Family Dermatology

How does Botox® work?

Botox® injections are prescription medications commonly used to treat frown lines between your eyebrows and crow’s feet around your eyes. Botox® injections contain botulinum toxin, which paralyzes facial muscles to prevent them from contracting and creating fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin appears smoother and younger-looking as a result.

Both men and women usually see the positive effects of a Botox® treatment 3-7 days after the procedure.

Dr. Vawter administers Botox® injections in a medical environment and is committed to upholding the highest professional standards and safety. The injections are well-tolerated, and the results last 3-4 months. You may need additional treatments a few times each year if you wish to maintain the results.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are facial treatments that improve your skin’s texture and appearance. Dr. Vawter offers superficial chemical peels, which are the mildest type of peel. Dr. Vawter can evaluate your skin and determine if you would benefit from this type of peel.

What can I expect with a superficial chemical peel treatment?

When you come in for your chemical peel, your skin will be cleaned to prepare it for the peel. Then, Dr. Vawter will apply the chemical to your face in a thin layer. You sit with the chemical on your skin for several minutes. The chemical is then neutralized or washed off your face.

You may feel a slight burning sensation, similar to a sunburn, and your skin may appear pink. Dr. Vawter or her team will instruct you on how to care for your skin after the superficial peel and how to minimize any discomfort. In most cases, you can return to your daily activities after the treatment, and your skin will heal quickly without much peeling or redness.
